Inspired by the stunning natural surroundings of Soneva Fushi, AquaTerra seamlessly combines sustainability, scientific progress, and extraordinary experiences. It serves as a central hub for their conservation initiatives, with a focus on educating guests about the local ecosystem through captivating encounters while also facilitating cutting-edge scientific research.
Within AquaTerra, there is currently an advanced spawning and rearing laboratory, developed in collaboration with the Coral Spawning Lab team. This specialized facility is dedicated to assisted evolution and the creation of heat-resistant super corals. Additionally, they have a state-of-the-art 3D-printing laboratory for producing coral substrates.
Looking ahead to the latter part of 2023, the Soneva Foundation plans to fund the establishment of a micro-fragmenting laboratory. This upcoming facility will feature 28 outdoor tanks capable of producing up to 100,000 corals annually. Furthermore, live streaming cameras equipped with fish recognition software will be installed at the coral nursery, complemented by real-time data from a SmartBuoy. Together, these enhancements will create a dynamic and comprehensive learning environment.
